Eagles Cornerback Room Has a Slight Conundrum cover image
Roundtable's Kevin Foley and Anthony Moeglin preview Week 4's matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in a bit of a predicament on the defensive side of the ball, primarily on the outside.

According to Jason Dumas, cornerbacks Adoree Jackson and Jakorian Bennett are both dealing with injuries that just may rule them out for Week 4’s meetup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This opens the door for cornerback Kelee Ringo, who slipped to the Eagles in the 2023 Draft after having top-60 projections.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters earlier this week that he spoke to Ringo at the end of camp, and letting him know that he was eventually going to get an opportunity.

“I’ve told Kelee here recently, not in the last few days but since the end of camp, he’s going to get his opportunity at some point,” Fangio said, “and he’s got to be ready. I think he knows that, eventually, he’ll get a shot for some reason whatsoever, and he’ll be ready.”

Initially during camp, Ringo was benched in favor of Jackson due to poor performance and was relegated to special teams.

“He’s handled it very well,” Fangio said about Ringo. “It hasn’t affected his role as a special teamer, which he is one of the top ones in the league.”

Ringo has the potential to be great, and now with Jackson being out it’s the perfect opportunity for him to get his starting spot back.

For the most part, Jackson hasn’t been great since winning the starting spot. He was unequivocally exposed in Week 1 against Dallas, and Week 2 against the Chiefs, posting a 42.7 grade on PFF which happens to be in the bottom-15 of all cornerbacks.

On top of Ringo getting his opportunity, it also opens the door for the Eagles to look from outside the organization.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles may be inclined to survey the cornerback trade market.

“Philadelphia's Howie Roseman and Houston's Nick Caserio have been among the most active dealmakers in recent years. While Roseman is usually trying to add, Caserio and the 0-3 Texans could be a few losses away from wanting to deal players for picks. I still think the Eagles might not be done at cornerback and could survey the market.”

Apart from trades, the Eagles could look to free agent corner Stephon Gillmore. Gillmore is on the backend of his career but has still proven to be a serviceable option after spending last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Whatever happens, the Eagles do have some work cut out for them. It’s up to them if they want to depend on their investment, or look elsewhere to get a quick fix.
