Eagles Could've Made Easy Trade Before Packers Stole Potential Idea

The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to keep four quarterbacks on their roster, a decision that really doesn't come as too much of a surprise.

At the end of the day, everybody knew that Jalen Hurts and Cole Payton were going to be on the roster, and Payton wasn't going to be the backup.

By keeping Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton together, the Eagles now have some serviceable backups or players they could even look to move on from when the time is right. As of now, the Eagles are doing the right thing, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Looking back, though, there were some moves the Eagles probably could have made over the past 24 to 48 hours that would have made more sense. One of them was trading a quarterback to the Miami Dolphins, who have Kevin Patullo as their quarterback coach. Instead, the Dolphins traded for Kyle McCord, who the Eagles took in the sixth round of the 2025 draft.

“Former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo landed with Miami this offseason after getting fired by Philadelphia in January. McKee reuniting with Patullo would have made some sense, too. That possibility no longer exists.

“The Dolphins traded a sixth-round in 2028 to the Green Bay Packers for Kyle McCord, who was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord was waived last summer after struggling during camp and spent the entire year on the Eagles’ practice squads. He left the Eagles after the season to sign with the Packers and revived his career with a strong performance in his second training camp,” Cayden Steele wrote.

It's not wrong to suggest that the Dolphins and Eagles could have gotten together for a nice little deal here. Miami has shown a willingness to add players who already have some familiarity with coaches and others in the organization.

However, a few other teams in the league should be interested in a potential deal for McKee or Dalton when the time is right.

Both players have value around the league, and that's part of why the Eagles might have kept them around.
