The Eagles will miss their star for the next few weeks.
If there's one reason why the Philadelphia Eagles won't be one of the better teams in the NFL this season, it's going to be because of injuries.
The harsh reality is that while the Eagles are undoubtedly one of the most talented teams in the NFL, they do have a couple of players on their roster who are a tad old.
That isn't necessarily the case with the latest player to hit IR, Landon Dickerson, but losing Dickerson is like losing any other veteran on the roster.
At only 27 years old, there's no reason to believe that he won't come back at full strength, as the three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion is undoubtedly one of the best guards in the NFL.
However, he'll be out for at least the next four games, an unfortunate situation Sean Mannion recently discussed.
“We feel really confident with all of our guys,” Mannion said, via a transcript from the team, H/T PFT. “It’s unfortunate with Landon, the guy’s a warrior, and we’ve got to get him healthy. In the meantime, we need guys to step up, but Drew’s had a really nice camp.
“Willie’s had a nice camp. Really, we have a lot of guys on our offensive line with a lot of position flexibility, versatility. We feel good about all of them. Obviously, Landon will be missed in the meantime, but we feel confident that guys are going to be able to step up and fill the void.”
“We’re going to keep that in-house in terms of what our plan is for this week, just for competitive reasons,” Mannion said. “Like I said, we have a lot of guys up front that can play multiple spots. We’ve been training them at all spots, so gives us some flexibility there.”
The Eagles have done a good job over the past couple of years of ensuring that they have decent depth up front. Howie Roseman has talked about it a lot, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.
At the same time, losing a guy like Dickerson is never ideal. He's started every game since he's been in Philadelphia, except one in his rookie year.
