The Philadelphia Phillies made plenty of tough roster decisions during the offseason, and one of them was paying Jordan Davis $78 million over three years. The deal has caught some backlash from people, weirdly enough, though I believe it’s a good one and something the Eagles had to do.

From the sound of things, Howie Roseman had the same thoughts. Roseman spoke about how Davis’ development hasn’t gone unnoticed in the building and, more importantly, that he believes there’s another level still to come. If Davis continues to improve, it’s scary to think about what he could look like in a few years.

“It’s always been about drafting well, re-signing our good players, as many of them as we are able to sign, and when you see a guy like Jordan, with all the work he’s put in throughout his journey, how he continues to improve as a player and as a person, it is a great tribute to who he is,” Roseman said prior to his trip to Arizona for the NFL Annual Meeting. “He has developed into the player and person we thought he could be when we traded up the first round of the 2022 Draft. He deserves all the credit. For our fans, no matter how well he played last year, the best is yet to come for Jordan Davis.

“One of the greatest gifts you have when you go into free agency is knowing, having the information,” Roseman said, per the team. “All of those guys are players that we have familiarity with, experience with. They have helped us achieve great success and so to be able to bring those players back – we know how they fit, without any transition, I think it’s a huge benefit to our football team.”

The reality of the NFL is that you have to take some and lose some. Sadly, the Eagles lost a lot of very good players. However, that also goes to show that Roseman No. 1 knows how to draft, and No. 2 makes the right trades when needed.

It’s an exciting time for the team and Davis should prove that.
