New Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander has made a surprising decision on his football future.

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander has decided to step away from football to get right physically and mentally. Alexander will then decide on his future.

The Eagles traded for Alexander at the deadline, sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

The 28-year-old cornerback is a talented player on the field, but has struggled with injuries over the past few years.

In his seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, he was a two-time Pro Bowler and was regarded as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.

In the 2020 season, Alexander had the highest coverage and overall grade among cornerbacks by PFF at 90.6 and 90.5, respectively.

However, in 2023 and 2024, Alexander only appeared in seven games each season due to injuries. He only played in two games for the Ravens this season.

Alexander has not played a game since being acquired by the Eagles. He did not fly with the team to Green Bay for their Monday night matchup.

The Eagles are giving Alexander time to work through things as he makes a decision on his future with football.

With Alexander not playing, Philadelphia will rely on its current cornerback rotation to step up, with Quinyon Mitchell, Adoree' Jackson, Cooper DeJean, and trade acquisition Michael Carter II.

The Eagles' secondary played at a high level in Week 10, contributing to their win over Green Bay. Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed 20 of 36 passes for just 176 yards and no touchdowns. This shows that their secondary can shut down or limit opposing teams' passing attacks, even without Alexander on the field.

The defending Super Bowl champions will look to build on their win streak in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions.

Philadelphia has a talented roster and is still one of the frontrunners in the NFC. However, they won't have a reinforcement coming in Alexander, who could've added to their defense.

The Eagles will hope to get the talented cornerback at some point this season, but will await Alexander's decision as he focuses on getting right physically and mentally.
