Hurts knows change is needed.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has been among the worst in the NFL to start the season, a very concerning sign for a team that has a boatload of talent. It's tough to say that everybody is to blame from top to bottom, but it does feel that way.
At the top are Sean Mannion, the new offensive coordinator, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley not being healthy, Nick Sirianni, and even Howie Roseman for his decision to move on from A.J. Brown.
That was bound to be a problem for Philadelphia's offense, and while guys like Dontayvion Wicks have stepped up, there's no debate that losing Brown was a problem.
If there's one promising sign for what's happened in Philadelphia over the past couple of weeks to start the year, it's the fact that guys aren't necessarily blaming one another.
There does seem to be some frustration coming from Hurts and others within the organization now, but guys in the locker room seem to understand that there's just a lot more to it than one player playing that poorly. Hurts recently spoke about that, adding that there have been challenges and that he needs to get on the same page with everybody.
"It's a challenge. It's a challenge. And that's not a challenge that I don't think that's one that we're naive of. think for me It's always pushing for that connection and that synergy so everybody's on the same page. And one of the takeaways from the game for me with the new unit, you know, I had every ounce of confidence that we would go out there and fight and give ourselves a position, give ourselves the opportunity to be in the game and win. And, you know, we've got a lot that we can be better at, a lot that we can learn from.
“But with the new guys and the preparation and the hunger that they had when it was a different feeling when I looked into their eyes in the huddle. And so as a quarterback, that's encouraging. You got guys going out there for the first time who knows, you know, I've been there before and, you know, they fought,” Hurts said, per Yahoo.
I still think it's a tad too early to really have a great feel for what this offense can be throughout the remainder of the season. However, as I've said about this offense before, there is only so much time in the NFL to keep struggling.
If the Eagles don't start performing better, it will result in more losses. If that's the case, they're not going to be in the playoffs.
I had a feeling Philadelphia could do enough offensively to win games, but that hasn't been the case early on. If it continues, we could see some drastic changes.
