Eagles' Jalen Hurts Gets Questionable Ranking in QB Talks
Jul 11, 2026 2:45 PM

Perhaps the most difficult quarterback to evaluate in the NFL is Jalen Hurts. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has been praised at times as a top-five-to-10 quarterback in the league, but others don't believe Hurts is a great quarterback because he gets carried by the Eagles' defense.

Furthermore, some believe that Hurts has a lot of weapons around him and should be a lot better than he is. I think Hurts is a very good player in his own right, and he gets a bit disrespected more often than not. Still, I can understand why some get frustrated with him at times, as it seems he needs to be better.

Ultimately, however, I still have him ranked somewhere in the top 15 if I were to go down a list of quarterbacks. PFF is almost in the same boat as me, ranking him 15th in the league in its recent quarterback rankings.

“Hurts posted a top-12 PFF passing grade for the fourth consecutive season, yet there are times when he doesn’t look like an elite quarterback. On the positive side, Hurts threw just six interceptions all season, four of which came in a Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. That wasn’t driven by good fortune, either, as Hurts’ 2.0% turnover-worthy play rate tied for the fourth-lowest mark among qualifying quarterbacks.

“At times, Hurts simply refuses to throw over the middle of the field. His 135 attempts between the numbers during the 2025 regular season ranked 23rd in the NFL, fewer than Joe Flacco, Daniel Jones, and Geno Smith. He also averaged just 4.0 yards per carry while earning a 71.6 PFF rushing grade. Both marks were the second-lowest of his career,” PFF wrote.

It almost feels like 15 is a bit disrespectful to a player like Hurts, who has proven as much as he has and won as much as he has in the league, but I still don't think it's outrageous to say that he's about 15.

There's reason to believe he can be a top-10 quarterback on any given night, but I'd also say the guys in the top 10-15 range can be top 10 at any given moment. For Hurts, this is as big of a season as we're ever going to see from him. He has a lot to prove with this current roster, and with the loss of A.J. Brown and some others, there's pressure on him to be as good as he once was.
