Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts came in ranked fairly low in a new Week 1 quarterback list.
As the Philadelphia Eagles get ready to kick off the new NFL season, there are real questions around the team.
One of the biggest questions has to do with the offense and whether it can get back to being explosive like it was when Philadelphia won the Super Bowl in 2024. 2025 saw all kinds of inconsistency from the Eagles' unit, prompting the team to make some changes.
Sean Mannion comes in as the team's new offensive coordinator, and he will try to get star quarterback Jalen Hurts back on track. Hurts was subject to all sorts of criticism last season due to his play, and now he has something to prove coming into the year.
Analyst Nick Shook of NFL.com ranked all the quarterbacks heading into the new season. While Hurts has usually been toward the top of the list, he came in ranked at No. 18 for the year.
This is an unusually low spot for a player of his caliber, but it shows just how poor he was at times in 2025. Hurts threw for 3224 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions, so the numbers weren't the worst.
On the ground, Hurts rushed for 421 yards and eight touchdowns. But it was the inconsistency that ended up hurting him, with the Eagles offense sputtering at times.
The team traded away star wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, leaving a hole in the offense. But Brown did make unnecessary headlines in the media, and the Eagles seem to be okay that he's gone.
Philadelphia drafted Makai Lemon out of USC in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, hoping he can help replace Brown. Lemon has all the talent in the world, but he will need to get up to speed on the NFL game.
This should help Hurts, but it will be up to Mannion to put his quarterback in a place to find more success. Hurts may not be the best pure thrower of the football, but he is talented enough to get the job done.
Hurts did win the Super Bowl two years ago, winning the MVP award for the big game. The quarterback has the talent, but he will have to get back to the basics this coming season.
The Eagles will open the new year against the Washington Commanders this weekend, giving them a nice test early on in the season.
