The Philadelphia Eagles have been very fortunate over the past few years to have the type of players that they do.
There's absolutely no debate that the Eagles are one of the best-run organizations in the world, and it's because of the players they have on the roster. Among the players who have been excellent in Philadelphia, longtime offensive lineman Lane Johnson is at the top of that list.
Johnson has been around this game a long time and is a model for other offensive linemen in this league.
If every offensive lineman in the NFL could have a career like Johnson, they would all come in with a big smile on their face. However, some former first-round picks haven't had the same type of career, at least early on. That includes current New England Patriots lineman Will Campbell, who was drafted with the fourth overall pick in 2025.
While Campbell has struggled, he also has a lot of tools to figure it out, and Johnson believes he'll do just that in the near future.
“Will kind of reminds me of myself, in a way,” Johnson said, per Boston.com. “A country kid drafted in the first round, so I know the pressures that are on guys like that. For me, I thought he had a really good rookie season. Talking to him — really, our lives are pretty similar in a lot of ways in what we’re doing. You can see him getting better. I was watching him some today, he looks thicker and bigger. He’s healed up from his knee injury.”
As for what Campbell had to say, it's always refreshing to hear that guys like Johnson continue to be respected. While he's much older in his career now, he still is.
Campbell also understands he needs to listen to guys like that if he wants to become the player everybody expected when the Patriots selected him with a top-five pick.
“You’d be kind of dumb not to,” Campbell said. “When you’re around Lane Johnson, Triston Wirfs, Dion Dawkins, if they say something, like I said, they’ve all played almost 10 years plus, and all of them are All-Pro at some point. They know what they’re talking about.”
