If Johnson is right, the Eagles could be in the market for a replacement sooner rather than later.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a slew of decisions to make going into this offseason. Most of the time, as an organization, you're focused on dealing with decisions on players. Every team, though even minimally, is typically also making coaching decisions each offseason.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, that's the position they found themselves in this offseason. After capping off a season filled with offensive turmoil with a first-round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles wasted no time in firing their offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo.

Just a little over two weeks after that, Philadelphia landed their new man. It was announced that they would be bringing in Green Bay Packers quarterback coach Sean Mannion.

Recently, Eagles franchise offensive tackle Lane Johnson spoke for the first time after a bit of a wild offseason thus far for Philadelphia. When asked about his new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, he compared him to another Eagles offensive coordinator who found success.

During a podcast appearance on Fitz and Whit, Lane Johnson spoke on the changes he's seen to the organization this offseason, including not only losing his offensive line coach, Jeff Stoutland, but also his new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, as well.

When speaking about Mannion, Johnson compared him to Shane Steichen. Steichen was the Eagles' offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022 and was integral in both their 2022 Super Bowl run and Jalen Hurts' development as well.

Like Mannion, Steichen was a quarterbacks coach with the Chargers before accepting the offensive coordinator role with Philadelphia, where he helped progress Justin Herbert, much like Mannion helped Jordan Love.

When speaking on Steichen, Johnson said, "It was just I thought he had a good sense of we could go into a game and have a game plan. And when he saw the defense that was lining up, and it wasn't anything like we expected, he would have the ability to go off script and kind of implement things. So yeah, it was just stuff off the cuff that you kind of saw in games and in practice. But his personality, man, he's really upbeat, up tempo, and it has a fire to him for sure.”

And when speaking on Sean Mannion, he said, "I'm excited about this new system,” Johnson said. ‘I think it has some Shanahan implements in it. And I think it will be maybe easier on the edge for Jordan (Mailata) and I. So maybe not as much isolation. And you know, when you run some wide zone like the 49ers, and the guy comes over you, you're not worried about it. You just keep going.

"I can get used to that. So yeah, I'm excited. I've watched these offenses from afar and been like, ‘Damn, that looks pretty fun.”

Johnson is now the second Eagles player to come out and say they're excited to play for Mannion after Jalen Hurts did so last week. The fact that the offensive pillars are this bought in this early bodes well for Philly's offense next season.
