Eagles Linked to Reunion With Pro Bowl Edge Who Had 27 Sacks in Two Years

The Philadelphia Eagles had to make some big changes to the roster this offseason, but as the preseason and training camp roll along, there are a lot of things to like about this team.

But that doesn't mean there aren't any issues. Makai Lemon has been hurt, and Eli Stowers has struggled. But the biggest issue is with Jonathan Greenard, who is currently out due to a pectoral injury that might keep him out for the regular season.

With this problem in mind, an edge rusher addition in free agency wouldn't be a bad idea. That's why Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named the Eagles as a "logical landing spot" for free-agent edge rusher Haason Reddick.

"A contract dispute led the Eagles to trade Reddick to the Jets in 2024," Knox writes. "A reunion would make sense, as Jonathan Greenard is now dealing with a pectoral injury and could miss the start of the regular season."

Adding Reddick would make a lot of sense on paper. There is no denying the Eagles might have a big problem if Greenard is out.

Looking at the depth chart, things get a bit concerning if Greenard is going to miss some time. Even though there's optimism about a Jalyx Hunt breakout, and Nolan Smith Jr. is a solid starter, the Eagles could still use more help.

Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa are intriguing free agent pickups, but after those two, it's late-round picks Keyshawn James-Newby, Jose Ramirez, Tarron Jackson, and an edge rusher whose first football experience is this year's training camp, Joshua Weru.

Reddick would make sense, at least on paper. It would not be a surprise if there were still some lingering bad feelings over how his tenure ended, especially considering he failed to land the big contract he was trying to get from the Eagles at the time.

He had 11 sacks in 2023 with Philadelphia, and 16 the year before. But in the last two seasons, one with the New York Jets and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he recorded just 3.5 combined sacks in 23 games played.

While a Reddick reunion could make sense, the Eagles might be better off exploring other options if they really need an edge, despite Knox naming the Eagles as a "logical" landing spot for the veteran edge rusher.
