Eagles Linked to Shrewd Trade That Could Help Solve Budding Issue cover image

The Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to a very compelling trade that could help solve a pretty significant issue.

For as much as we have harped on the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive woes through the first six weeks of the season, they haven't exactly been defensive stalwarts, either.

That was on full display last Thursday, when the New York Giants punctured the Eagles for 34 points while missing two of their top three wide receivers.

Philadelphia has all sorts of issues defensively right now. It lacks a pass rush, Zack Baun doesn't look quite as good as last year and the secondary has been getting burnt.

The good news is that the Eagles have from now until the trade deadline to make a move in order to address it, and Anthony DiBona of The Philly Special has proposed a deal in which Philadelphia would send a sixth-round draft pick to the New York Jets in exchange for cornerback Michael Carter II and a seventh-rounder.

Carter isn't exactly a lockdown corner, but he would comprise a very intriguing option alongside of Quinyon Mitchell.

Let's just get this out of the way now: Carter hasn't been good this year. At all. He owns a pitiful 35.9 coverage grade at Pro Football Focus, and last season, he was at 47.9.

However, the 26-year-old has been a solid player in the past, particularly in 2022 and 2023 when he actually did a terrific job in the Jets' defensive backfield. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him some good.

Really, the Eagles just need an upgrade over Kelee Ringo right now. Ringo has been subpar all season long, and he was shredded by Jaxson Dart and the Giants' aerial attack in Week 6. Maybe Carter could at least provide the Birds with a better option than him.

Carter would definitely represent a be-all-end-all solution for Philadelphia, but it's not like Philly is just going to find a shutdown corner in the middle of the season. Plus, the cost to acquire Carter would likely be very minimal, and he is under contract through 2027.

Last year, the Eagles' defense was big reason why they won the Super Bowl, but they lost some very key pieces during the offseason that definitely hurt the unit. We'll see if Philadelphia tries to rectify the issue in the coming weeks.

The Eagles are 4-2 and will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
