Eagles Make Stance on AJ Brown Vividly Clear cover image

Even after a disappointing Week 1, the Philadelphia Eagles still hold wide receiver A.J. Brown in the highest regard.

Over the past few seasons, the Eagles have been one of the more active teams in the NFL whether it be on the trade market or in free agency. But don’t expect Brown to go anywhere.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, during the offseason, several teams were pinging GM Howie Roseman’s phone in hopes to find a way to get the three-time Pro Bowler.

But before anyone who isn’t an Eagles fan gets their hopes up, Brown is off the table.

“Philly’s A.J. Brown, who had a quiet Week 1, drew some interest months ago. But teams poking around during the offseason were told by Eagles GM Howie Roseman flat-out: No dice,” Russini reported.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Eagles are adamant in keeping their prized receiver. Over the years, he’s built a solid chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts, and he and DeVonta Smith have become one of the more dominant wide receiver duos in the league.

In Week 1’s 24-20 win against the Dallas Cowboys, Brown was incredibly close to having his first career game where he recorded zero receptions. Hurts connected with Brown on his first target with less than two minutes in the game for eight yards.

Earlier in the week, a reporter tried to gauge how Brown was feeling about the lack of targets, and he wasn’t having any of it.

"I’m not answering, that’s a setup question. I’m not answering that. ... I want to focus on myself, like my effort and what I do. I’m not mad at you. But I’m not answering."

Brown is a critical part to the Eagles, and even when he’s not an active member in the game plan, he still serves a major purpose.

Coach Nick Sirianni praised Brown’s mental toughness:

"That's why A.J.'s special because even in a game like that, he does things without the ball to help us win, and he makes a play in a critical moment.”

With Brown not being a major part of the game plan in the first game of the season, don’t be surprised if he’s targeted more in Week 2’s Super Bowl rematch against the Chiefs.

In the 2022 season, Smith opened his season with zero receptions; and the following two weeks, Smith registered a total 239 receiving yards.

Week 2’s game against the Chiefs will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET, with it being aired on FOX.
