The Eagles need some sort of spark this week.
After another loss this past week, the Philadelphia Eagles are making a change at the quarterback position.
Philadelphia has benched Tanner McKee, electing to move forward with quarterback Joe Milton for their upcoming game against the New York Giants. ESPN NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo revealed the news on social media.
After quarterback Jalen Hurts was announced out for the remainder of the season, the Eagles put McKee in as the starter. But the offense has floundered even more with McKee under center, with the Eagles dropping every game he has played in.
McKee did what he could for the Eagles, but in the end, it just wasn't enough for him to stay as the starter. In his limited time as the Philadelphia starter, McKee threw for 638 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, completing 63.2 percent of his passes.
Enough was enough for the Eagles after the team dropped its sixth straight game on Sunday to the Washington Commanders. There had been calls for the Eagles to make a change, and now head coach Nick Sirianni has made the decision.
Milton now takes over this offense, with the Eagles trying to find some sort of spark to salvage the season. The veteran quarterback has one of the strongest arms in the game, and he should be able to help this team push the ball down the field.
But Milton doesn't have a lot of experience int he NFL, only having played in five games total over his career. However, in his one game of extended action in 2024 against the Buffalo Bills, Milton performed very well for the New England Patriots.
Milton threw for 241 yards, going 22-of-29 passing, for one touchdown, with a passer rating of 111.4. The signal-caller also scored a rushing touchdown, showing his dual-threat abilities on the field
Philadelphia will be hoping that he can replicate this for them, giving the offense some sort of chance to get going. The Eagles need Milton to be the spark plug for this unit, as the team tries to break its long losing streak.
The Eagles are 2-6 on the season, but with the NFC East being much weaker than normal this year, the division is still up for grabs. If the Eagles can get the win over the Giants, they would only trail New York by less than two games for the division lead.
