During the Philadelphia Eagles' Wild Card Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Nick Sirianni and A.J. Brown got into a heated sideline exchange.
The Eagles lost to the 49ers at home by a final score of 23-19. Brown had two drops, tying a career high, and declined to speak to the media postgame.
During his media session, Sirianni not only downplayed the spat with Brown, but he also defended the polarizing WR.
"I think he knows how I feel about him," Sirianni said about Brown. "I have a special relationship with him. We've probably [gone] through every emotion you can possibly have together. We've laughed together. We've cried together. We've yelled at each other. We're both emotional. I was trying to get him off the field, and that happens in this game. That happens in this game, but I love him."
Brown finished the Eagles-49ers game with three catches for 25 yards on seven targets. He was booed by Philadelphia fans after his second drop in the fourth quarter.
"He's got the best hands I've ever seen," Sirianni said about Brown. "The way he catches the ball, the amount of different types of catches that he's made. When you get as many targets as he does, you're going to have some drops. I know he will beat himself up on that."
The Eagles could trade Brown this offseason. Brown had 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season. He and QB Jalen Hurts weren't on the same page at all.
Philadelphia is widely expected to fire Kevin Patullo, who took over as OC after Kellen Moore left to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles were 19th in the NFL in points per game under Patullo. They were seventh in scoring last season under Moore and won the Super Bowl.
With Patullo calling plays, the Eagles ranked 23rd in the NFL in passing yards and 18th in rushing yards.
Brown has been with the Eagles since 2022. He has 339 receptions for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns in a Philadelphia uniform.
