As I've said many times now, the Philadelphia Eagles are an organization that's built on winning.
The tough reality for a guy like Nick Sirianni is that any year that doesn't end in a Super Bowl is typically viewed as a major disappointment for this organization. Unfortunately for Sirianni, last season wasn't ideal, and it almost sounds crazy to say. The Eagles won a whole lot of games, were still in the playoffs with ease, and, frankly, were once again the best team in their division. However, as noted above, that doesn't always cut it in Philadelphia.
That's why, according to The Athletic, there's a sense that Sirianni is under scrutiny heading into next season.
“Even with his success, Sirianni’s approval rating repeatedly rises and falls. The Eagles reached the Super Bowl in 2022, and Sirianni’s bombast was colorful. They underachieved in 2023 and were one-and-done in the playoffs, and that same bombast seemed grating while questions emerged about Sirianni’s job security. When the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX, redemption was the storyline. One year later, the Eagles underachieved and were one-and-done. He’s again under scrutiny,” Zach Berman of The Athletic wrote.
I'm unsure if that's truly enough to get him fired, but I definitely assume that if the Eagles don't play as well as many are hoping, there's a real chance he won't have a job any longer.
The question for Philadelphia after that is who it would want to hire, as one would have to assume that the Eagles have more than enough talent to attract a very good head coach. I think Sirianni is a good coach and can lead this team to a lot of wins, just as he has throughout his career.
The idea here isn't for the Eagles to win regular-season games, but rather more championships, which, again, Sirianni has already done.
I will say, however, that he'll go into next season with a lot of pressure. I don't know if it's fair for him to have that pressure, but the truth is that he needs to win and win big to keep his job.
