Eagles Not Viewing 2026 as Make or Break for Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni

The 2026 season for the Philadelphia Eagles is perhaps one of the most interesting around the entire NFL.

For a team that's built on winning right now, doing so just a few years ago, the Eagles are expected to be one of the best teams in the NFL, and there's absolutely no debate about that. Anything less will be viewed as a major disappointment, and rightfully so, considering how much money, coaching staff, and talent they have on both sides of the ball.

Philadelphia is a very good team for a reason, but if things go south, multiple players and coaches will get more blame than others. At the top of that list includes Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni.

Hurts, who has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL over the past few years, has been scrutinized. People don't think that Hurts is as good as others do, which has led to some questions about his future in Philadelphia.

Regarding Sirianni, if he doesn't win, there's an argument to be made that his demeanor and attitude can run dry. However, according to the latest report, this season isn't being viewed as a make-or-break one for either in the organization.

"An offseason of communications with various NFL sources indicated two things: The Eagles do not consider 2026 to be a make-or-break season for either Hurts or Sirianni. That’s because ... Installing an offense that is so philosophically different than what’s come before it is not a 17-game undertaking. It’s a two-season project. This makes perfect sense. It is the proper way to view the matter.

“I’ll admit, it’s not the way I viewed the matter this spring. I thought Hurts’ limitations as a passer and decision-maker should imperil his status past 2026. I thought Sirianni’s inability to mature and his lack of offensive innovation should imperil his status as well. I came around. Several NFL insiders said that this season should not be crucial for either the coach or the QB. Why? Because, as long as the 2026 season doesn’t deteriorate into disaster, and as long as there is promise in December that the Birds can win big as soon as next season, the Eagles will have a better foundation than ever. They could be building something that lasts for the next decade,” The Inquirer wrote, H/T SB Nation.

I think there are a couple of different ways to consider these comments.

For one, it doesn't sound like the Eagles are going into the year expecting to move on from either guy. However, that also doesn't mean that if Philadelphia is one of the worst teams in the NFL, it won't make a move with its starting quarterback and head coach.
