The Philadelphia Eagles have made their intentions clear over the past few months: they want to improve on the offensive side of the ball. The Eagles have done a good job bringing in players who should make a nice impact for the organization, though some haven't impressed early on. Hollywood Brown, a former receiver who many thought had a chance to be a superstar in this league, is one of them.
There have been times when he looks like an above-average receiver, and others when he looks about average. The harsh reality for Brown is that he's still figuring some things out, but the Eagles might not want to wait too long.
At the same time, contracts are the biggest factor in decisions about moving on from players. According to one writer, his guaranteed money will likely ensure he makes the roster, despite struggling early on.
“The Eagles signed Moore and Brown to one-year deals this offseason, guaranteeing Brown $5 million, while Moore received no guaranteed money. Brown has not looked like a player worth his $5 million guarantee. Once known for his top-end speed and dynamic quickness, Brown has not been explosive and has not made many plays in practice. He has struggled to get on the same page as quarterback Jalen Hurts and has been the intended wide receiver on three of Hurts’ interceptions.
“Brown’s guaranteed money makes it likely he will make the roster, but he’s not a lock,” Cayden Steele wrote.
Brown has dealt with his fair share of injuries, which is why it's not promising to hear he doesn't look as good as everybody knows he can be. He said a few weeks ago that this was the best he'd ever felt in his career, so it's a big question why this is happening now.
Obviously, he could be saying something and feeling a totally different way, but this isn't ideal for Philadelphia.
It's very early, though, so I wouldn't put too much stock into things yet. If this is an issue around Week 5, that's a different story, but we haven't even played a real game yet.
