The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back tight end Zach Ertz after Dallas Goedert sprained his MCL in Week 2.
The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former star tight end Zach Ertz to the practice squad after starting tight end Dallas Goedert went down with a sprained MCL in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans.
Ertz spent the first nine years of his career with the Eagles and was an impactful weapon, making it to three Pro Bowls and winning a Super Bowl. In his nine years with the franchise, he had 579 receptions for 6,267 yards and 38 touchdowns.
If Ertz catches 11 more passes as an Eagle, he will become the franchise leader in catches, passing Harold Carmichael. He will now have that opportunity as he returns to the team.
After his time in Philadelphia, he played three years with the Arizona Cardinals before spending the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders. In the 2025 season, Ertz suited up in 13 games, catching 50 passes for 504 yards and four touchdowns.
The 35-year-old is no longer a star, but he has proven he is still a capable weapon and could be a solid piece for the Eagles' offense while Goedert is out.

Philadelphia won't expect Ertz to replicate Goedert's production at this stage of his career, but rather to be another option in the passing game for Jalen Hurts and the offense.
The Eagles' offense struggled to pass efficiently in their narrow Week 2 win over the Titans. Hurts completed 26 of 37 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while being sacked three times.
Leading receiver DeVonta Smith played at a high level, logging 10 receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown, while Dontayvion Wicks had a solid game with five receptions for 74 yards.
However, the next leading weapon had just two receptions, showcasing that Philadelphia is in need of more options for Hurts to connect with downfield.
Goedert provides that when he's healthy, but in his absence, Ertz will be a reliable weapon for Hurts to go to in passing situations.
