The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the playing status for Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith.
The Philadelphia Eagles have been hit with all sorts of injury problems over the last few weeks of the season.
Amid this, the team has spiraled, losing three straight games entering into Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. Philadelphia is currently 2-3 on the season, with the group looking to avoid dropping another contest early in the year.
Heading into the game with the Panthers, the Eagles have revealed the game status for both star running back Saquon Barkley and star wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
Both players missed last week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to ongoing hamstring injuries. Philadelphia's offense couldn't do much of anything without the two stars in the game against Jacksonville.
But at least for this week, the Eagles will be getting Smith back in the lineup. Barkley remains out this week against Carolina with the hamstring injury.
Getting Smith back for this contest could provide the Eagles with a major spark, especially since starting quarterback Jalen Hurts will also miss the game. Hurts is dealing with a scary blood clot issue, and he has been ruled out for the matchup.
Backup quarterback Tanner McKee will be under center for the Eagles in this game against the Panthers, and having Smith out on the field could help. Smith is the No. 1 weapon for Philadelphia on offense, and he will be heavily relied upon this week.
For the season, Smith has caught 19 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles are going to need Smith to put together a strong game this week if they want to stop the bleeding to get the win.
Going up against the tough Carolina offensive attack, the Philadelphia unit may have to match them. But the Eagles will be counting on the defense to get the job done in Week 6 as well, pressuring Panthers quarterback Bryce Young early and often.
With the game being played at home, it could favor the Eagles a little bit, especially having a backup quarterback un the game. McKee started one game for Philadelphia last year, throwing for 274 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Eagles are going to need him to limit the turnovers in the game, keeping this team close to Carolina. If McKee can do that, it could allow Philadelphia the chance to pull off the major upset this week.
Kickoff between the Eagles and Panthers is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET.
