Eagles Should Only Sell if They Believe 2027 Can't be Improved

The assets could be of help beyond this year, but who they trade with is more important.

Typically, the Philadelphia Eagles are buyers at the trade deadline, with Howie Roseman having an opportunity to better his team on both sides of the football. As the Eagles approach this year's trade deadline, they're somewhat stuck in the middle.

There's reason to believe Philadelphia could be interested in buying some, but it could also decide to sell. I wouldn't be surprised if Philadelphia goes both ways, but we won't know until early November.

Among the many options the Eagles could trade, guys like Saquon Barkley and Landon Dickerson have popped up. I don't necessarily agree with moving on from either of them, especially if the Eagles think they're going to compete next year, but I also trust Roseman to make the decisions he has to.

Touching on whether the Eagles should sell or not, it was recently noted that they're one of the teams that should. In a sense, sitting at 2-4 and with Jalen Hurts being out for the remainder of the season, it's almost tough to disagree with.

“While the Eagles have been buyers for the majority of general manager Howie Roseman’s tenure, it may finally be time for them to sell. Underscored by Jalen Hurts’s season-ending blood clots, Philadelphia has dealt with an abundance of injuries to some of the team’s biggest stars—including Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson—and also saw stalwart right tackle Lane Johnson retire earlier this month after 13-plus seasons. As such, they’ve lost four consecutive games and sit at 2–4 through the first six weeks of the 2026 campaign,” Eva Geitheim and Mike Kadlick wrote.

“While too talented to fully rebuild, the Eagles’ roster could use a reset, and with their playoff chances dwindling by the week, now’s the time for Philadelphia to pounce on the opportunity and better position itself for 2027.”

Philadelphia ultimately has to decide whether it believes it can compete in the NFC East for the remainder of the season.

The New York Giants are currently 3-2-1 and in first place, and with their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart, out for the remainder of the season, I can see why Philadelphia would want to improve and win the division.

As for the Dallas Cowboys, who also sit at 2-4, there's reason to believe they'll be heavy buyers at this year's trade deadline. Frankly, if Dallas doesn't win the division this year, barring its own injuries, it would be a major disappointment.
