Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee continues to be named a top NFL trade candidate.
Throughout the course of the 2026 NFL offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles were mentioned in a lot of different rumors. Among the most common rumors was a potential trade involving backup quarterback Tanner McKee.
Entering the regular season, the Eagles decided to keep four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. They have Jalen Hurts as their starter with Andy Dalton as the primary backup. McKee comes in at No. 3 on the depth chart, with Cole Payton at No. 4.
Carrying four quarterbacks on a 53-man roster isn't normal. That has left the door open for Philadelphia to trade one of its backups.
McKee still seems to be the most likely trade candidate. He has shown flashes of potential in limited playing time. Any team needing quarterback help would likely have interest.
With that being said, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay named McKee as one of the NFL's backup quarterbacks most likely to be traded during the 2026 season.
"Given that McKee is entering the final year of his rookie deal and reportedly drew strong offers that included a Day 2 pick at last season's trade deadline, it's hard to see Philadelphia's brass choosing to keep him beyond November," Kay wrote.
At the end of the day, moving on from McKee would be a difficult decision. He has shown legitimate NFL talent. Unfortunately, the Eagles may find themselves without a choice.
Since being drafted by Philadelphia with the No. 188 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, McKee has played in six regular season games. The 26-year-old quarterback has completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 597 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.
There are many young quarterbacks throughout the NFL who have played much worse. McKee has shown small signs of potentials tarting talent.
If he never develops into a starter, McKee does have the talent to be a top-tier backup.
Whether or not the Eagles will end up trading the young signal caller remains to be seen. It would be a surprise to see Howie Roseman keep four quarterbacks on the roster through the trade deadline.
Fans should expect to continue hearing McKee's name mentioned in the rumor mill. They could choose to keep him and move on from Payton or Dalton, but Kay's opinion is that McKee is among the most likely signal callers to get moved at some point this year.
