There would've been much more to get a few months ago.
The question the Philadelphia Eagles will have to answer with Saquon Barkley is getting more real by the day.
There's reason to believe that if the Eagles want to move on from Barkley, they're going to do so prior to this year's trade deadline. Keeping him past the deadline would suggest Philadelphia believes it has a real chance to compete next season, which is why this question is so hard to answer.
As I look at Philadelphia's roster, I understand that there are many questions about it due to the injuries that it's dealing with on both sides of the football, but I also think it's fair to recognize that guys like Barkley are still under contract beyond just this season, and the team has a real chance to be above average in the long term if it makes the necessary moves in next year's offseason and comes back healthy next year.
Everything will come down to how healthy this team can be, which has ultimately been nearly the entire reason Philadelphia has struggled at this level throughout this season.
That doesn't mean the Eagles will take that route and won't trade Barkley. There seems to be some real buzz that it's a possibility, at least for the right price. Bleacher Report recently proposed one trade that would see Philadelphia do just that, sending him to the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings receive: RB Saquon Barkley
Philadelphia Eagles receive: 2027 third- and sixth-round draft picks
“With the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers both faltering in Week 7, the Vikings stand alone as the NFL's last remaining undefeated team. It's apparent that this team has the potential to make a Super Bowl run, but the offense hasn't played nearly up to the level of excellence the team's defense has established.
“One way to jump-start a unit that has been averaging a pitiful 281.7 yards per game (the fourth-fewest in football) is to acquire a game-changing running back. Saquon Barkley could be available for the right price after the Eagles dropped their fifth consecutive game on Monday night,” Alex Kay of Bleacher Report wrote.
The Vikings are in a very good position right now to compete for a division title and win a Super Bowl, currently 6-0 and in first place in the NFC North.
The one thing the Vikings have to watch is that every team in the NFC North is above .500, including the 5-2 Chicago Bears and the 4-2 Detroit Lions.
It's also important to see what Philadelphia could get in return for Barkley. A third- and sixth-round pick doesn't necessarily move the needle much, though it's important to recognize that he's nearly 30 years old and he's also dealing with injuries of his own.
Philadelphia would ultimately have to consider that, since there's an argument that keeping him around could be the wiser decision if the draft compensation isn't going to be great.
