The Philadelphia Eagles have done a lot of good during the offseason and, with more expected to come. Even if that means just moving on from AJ Brown after June 1, the expectation around the NFL is that the Eagles are far from done yet, and that will probably be the biggest deal of the offseason.
The Eagles can also decide to add a few more veteran free agents, as Howie Roseman has said over the past few days that the team likely isn't set just yet. He has to see where things stand during practice, but Roseman is typically aggressive and if he finds a way for his team to get better, the expectation is for him to take that.
The Eagles were recently linked to a former player who was on their Super Bowl team in 2024 to accomplish just that.
The idea would be bringing in a veteran who doesn't have to be a starter, but can play whenever somebody else goes down. That player was none other than Mekhi Becton, a guard who last appeared in games for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025.
“Even with the selection of Micah Morris in the sixth round and the signing of Jaeden Roberts, the Eagles could badly use proven depth at right guard. Between the two draft picks and Willie Lampkin and Hollin Pierce, none of them have played a snap in a regular season NFL game. Drew Kendall is the only one who has any NFL experience, starting in the regular season finale last season and playing 64 snaps at center.
"He's never played guard in a regular season game. This is where Becton comes into play. Becton was a starting right guard for the Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers over the last two seasons. He was excellent in his one season with the Eagles -- his first year at guard -- under the tutelage of Jeff Stoutland,” Jeff Kerr wrote.
I've never been the biggest fan of Becton, but I do understand that there's a reason to like him as a veteran who can come in and just do the job.
Whether he's a starter or a backup guy at this stage of his career is a different story, but with the Eagles' offensive line having some questions, it isn't crazy to suggest that he could be a starter in Philadelphia once again after starting 15 games for the organization in 2024.
