This would be an interesting decision but not a wrong one.
With the health questions revolving around star quarterback Jalen Hurts for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Philadelphia seemingly not having a decent backup in Tanner McKee, there are going to be some questions about what the future of the quarterback position looks like for this organization.
Ultimately, how Hurts feels should be the biggest priority.
We have to hope that the QB who starred throughout some very big moments for this organization just gets healthy from a human perspective. Football is not more important than his health, and Hurts has already done everything that any player could ever want.
He's a champion, has made a boatload of money, and now truly has to worry about himself. But unfortunately for the Eagles, this is a business at the end of the day, and business decisions typically aren't easy ones to make when it comes to ones of this magnitude.
The Eagles are going to have to decide what they want to do at the quarterback position, and while it seems like moving on from Hurts or trying to replace him right now is nasty business, so to say, it doesn't sound like it's an impossible outcome.
"I don’t know what they think of the quarterbacks (in the draft) this year, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if they draft Hurts’ eventual replacement early," a general manager told Ralph Vacchiano while speaking about the Eagles. "It’s the perfect year to do it. There are a lot of interesting prospects, and one first- or second-round pick isn’t going to fix all of the Eagles’ problems anyway. Using that on a quarterback for help down the road might be pretty smart."
"Something has seemed off with Hurts anyway," a scout told Vacchiano. "He’s had so many offensive coordinators and just hasn’t looked comfortable the last two years. Sometimes that can take its toll on a guy. That doesn’t mean he’s done. But if I were the Eagles, I’d start thinking about what I’m going to do if I can’t get him straightened out."
It shouldn't really surprise anyone that this is the reality of the situation.
Hurts was somebody who entered this year with some questions as a player, though a lot of them were unfair considering all he's done throughout his career to win at a high level. At the same time, this is Philadelphia we're talking about, and guys are always going to be put under a different type of pressure.
Hurts was able to answer that throughout a lot of his career, and even throughout the first five games of this season prior to being injured, he looked to be a guy who we could trust, and Philadelphia was going to be a team that was going to win a good bit.
It's unfortunate that things have taken a turn for the worse in every imaginable way, but it does lead to some questions that the Eagles have to answer this offseason.
