Howie Roseman Reveals Why Eagles Made Polarizing Roster Decision

The Philadelphia Eagles opted to keep four quarterbacks on their roster, a decision that really shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The Eagles have continued to show they have a lot of value at backup quarterback, and that makes sense. As we see multiple times every year when starting quarterbacks go down, teams typically don't have a guy who can come in and make a major impact.

It's unfortunate when teams have to go through this, but the Eagles seem confident they aren't one of them.

Speaking to reporters about why he decided to keep four quarterbacks on his 53-man roster, Howie Roseman had a lot to say.

Roseman admitted he views it as one of the most valuable positions in the NFL and even went so far as to say it's the most important position in sports.

“The most important position in sports,” Roseman noted, per NBC Sports Philly. “I feel like all those guys have value for our team. Obviously, some is short-term value, some is long-term value when you think about Cole. As we went through the process here, just thought it was the right thing to do for our football team.”

“It's just such a valuable position,” Roseman said. “From our perspective, last year, obviously we took someone in the [sixth] round (Kyle McCord), let him go. He left our practice squad to go somewhere else, traded for a sixth-round pick. These guys are valuable. They take time to develop at the same time.”

The good thing here is that the Eagles have a guaranteed starter in Jalen Hurts. There's absolutely no debate about that, so there are just a few other guys who have to kind of fill a role here.

Andy Dalton, a proven veteran, can probably come in at any moment and do a decent job. Tanner McKee should probably be the first guy off the bench if Hurts were to go down, and Cole Payton can learn from three guys who have found success in this league.

There's a lot to unpack in the Eagles' current quarterback room, but I don't see four quarterbacks as that big of a deal. If anything, I'd expect a trade to possibly come in the near future.
