While training camp is a good way to see how players look, especially rookies, the Philadelphia Eagles can't be worried about that too much.
Ultimately, this is a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl, so even if some players don't get much action in training camp because of injuries, it's better to be smart with that rather than risking an injury during a time that frankly doesn't mean a whole lot at the moment.
One player in particular who is dealing with an injury is Makai Lemon.
Lemon, one of the better rookies in the NFL, at least from his college tape, is expected to come into Philadelphia and have a nice impact on this organization. The young man is viewed as a potential WR1 in the future, but he's yet to practice.
Frustration has been high for many, but mainly for Lemon, who wants to be on the field. He proved throughout the draft process that he cares deeply about playing football and being there for his team. He's a big-time competitor, so not being on the field at this stage of his career has bothered him a bit.
However, general manager Howie Roseman recently spoke to him and shared words of wisdom about other rookies he's dealt with in the past who dealt with these injuries and went on to have successful rookie seasons.
"I talked to him the other day, and I reminded him of a rookie who was banged up in training camp a couple of years ago. His name's Cooper DeJean. You know him? He didn't play until our third preseason game.
“He didn't practice until then. He got hurt. He was hurt through the draft process. [He] got hurt during our minicamps, and [he] turned out to have a phenomenal rookie season,” Roseman said, per USA Today.
Any player who is the same type of player that Cooper DeJean has been would be a big-time win for the Eagles.
Not to say that DeJean is the best player in the NFL, but if every player on the Eagles was as good as him at their position, Philadelphia would genuinely be in a very good spot. Hopefully, Lemon isn't beating himself up too much and gets back on the field sometime in the near future.
