There's plenty to be worried about on the offensive side of the football.
As we look at the problems the Philadelphia Eagles showed on Monday night against the Chicago Bears, there are many to consider. For one, the defense wasn't great, allowing 375 total yards, including 247 from veteran quarterback Case Keenum, who simply shouldn't have played the way he did against this Eagles defense.
Philadelphia couldn't get enough pressure on him, ending the game with no sacks or forced turnovers.
On offense, Philadelphia was flat-out brutal, with quarterback Jalen Hurts struggling and the team scoring just seven points total.
The Eagles had a chance to win coming out of halftime, despite how ugly they were in the first half and what they did in the second. Philadelphia was only down 10-7 but was outscored 17 -7 and failed to score in the second half.
The offense struggled in several ways, and quarterback Jalen Hurts spoke about some of them.
“For us, in the first three games, we haven’t been good enough coming out of half,” Hurts said, per NBCS Philly. “We have not scored on the first drive of half. We’ve gotten the ball every time. You love to score. When you get the ball on the 40, you get one of these kicks, you get 60 yards to work with. So just got to be better.
“That’s a complete team effort, that starts with me making sure we’re in the right play, making sure we’re managing it in a way where we’re ahead of the sticks. And situationally, I’ve got to play better ball. Third down is a very big down for us. That’s been a very big down for us in these first two games and today we were not good enough and I wasn’t good enough. On fourth down, I wasn’t good enough as well.”
Third-down problems are something everybody has to be mindful of moving forward.
Philadelphia was just two of nine on third-down attempts on Monday night and wasn't any better on fourth down, completing zero of two attempts. That's not something that's ever going to win games, but there's another factor: Chicago had 22 more offensive plays than Philadelphia.
When you combine those numbers, Monday night is exactly what happens. The Bears completely dominated on both sides of the football, and the numbers back that up.
