I think one thing a lot of people forget about Jalen Hurts is that he has had multiple offensive coordinators throughout his career.
Some of that can be self-inflicted, as Kevin Patullo obviously would have been around had the Eagles been better on the offensive side of the football last year, and some might blame the Eagles quarterback for that, but it's so important to remember that there hasn't been a ton of continuity on the offensive side of things for Hurts throughout his career, and unfortunately, that can definitely lead to some downplay at times.
The Eagles are hopeful that new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion will make a major impact on the roster. Hurts definitely has the talent and the pieces surrounding him to do exactly that, but he's going to have to show that on the field.
For the time being, Philadelphia fans are looking for answers, and, according to one writer, those questions will be louder than ever during the 2026 season.
“Hurts is going to be under heavy scrutiny in 2026, like he has at other times in his career. As usual, he'll have another new offensive coordinator to work with. In the past, Hurts has responded when he has been under fire. He has not really had two consecutive down seasons, at least relative to expectations. But, if he doesn't have a bounce-back season, would it really be that surprising if the team considered other options?
“Rebound or regress? I've learned not to bet against Hurts when he feels like he has something to prove. And certainly, the scheme can't be worse than it was a year ago, right? Rebound,” Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice wrote.
The one interesting part here, as Kempski touched on, is that when Hurts gets counted out, he typically finds a way for things to work out. We can say that about others in the NFL, but not many do what Hurts does when things start to get questioned.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him come in and do exactly what's needed for the Eagles on that side of the football, though I also want to see some of the other guys on the roster, like Saquon Barkley, really step up.
