Jalen Hurts taunted Jeffery Simmons after the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Tennessee Titans.
Tennessee Titans defender Jeffery Simmons is one of the best players in the NFL.
However, he made a rookie mistake before the Titans' Week 2 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Simmons told reporters that the Titans need to make Eagles star Jalen Hurts "be a QB" to win the game.
That quote did not age well.
Hurts went 26/37 through the air for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Titans. He threw the game-winning touchdown to Darius Cooper with nine seconds left in regulation and taunted Simmons after the game.
"You started that s---," Hurts said with a smile, taking a break from his postgame interview to address Simmons. "I had to finish it."
Simmons, whose Titans are 0-2, tried to add context to his viral quote during the week after the game, but it didn't matter since Hurts and Co. won the game.
"He's a Super Bowl MVP," Simmons said. "That wasn't no shot at Jalen. The thing was if we could keep him in the pocket and eliminate him from scrambling and running, making him go sideways, we could be successful especially getting them to third down.
"We saw Jalen would try to make something happen downfield and take off running. You see it all over his tape. That was my point of making Jalen Hurts stay in the pocket and just be a quarterback. It wasn't, 'Oh he can't be a quarterback in the pocket.'"
Hurts is not a perfect QB, but all he does is win.
The Eagles are now 59-25 in the regular season with Hurts under center. They have been to two Super Bowls and won it all against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
The Eagles signed Hurts to a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023. However, there is little guaranteed money left on Hurts' deal after the 2026 season.
If Hurts plays well all season and leads the Eagles to another Super Bowl, he will get another huge extension.
"I heard it," Hurts told reporters postgame of Simmons' comments.
Hurts was then asked how he thought he responded.
"I'm happy we won," Hurts said.
