Philadelphia Eagles fans who are hoping for a divorce with Kevin Patullo this offseason may want to brace themselves, as some are saying they might not get their wish.
As bad as the offense has looked at times, Patullo’s future appears to be up in the air for now due to how this team looks and how the offense looks in the playoffs, and how much loyalty still carries weight inside the building.
NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo had the latest on the situation, and when doing so, poured some cold water on the idea that a change is guaranteed.
“Nick is loyal to Kevin. Now, we've seen where the owner has put head coaches in the crosshairs there before saying we need a new offensive coordinator and then the head coach saying no and then what happens? We're talking about the Doug (Pederson) situation before. I think that only is a conversation truly if they get bounced this week. If they make it to the Divisional round, I think there's continuity there,” he said, per Anthony Miller.
Head coach Nick Sirianni believes in Patullo, and we’ve known that for a few months now. If he didn’t, the entire unit would’ve been changed.
For fans, that’s the frustrating part. Given that the concern with Patullo isn’t just about one bad game or one bad stretch, it’s about the entire season, it’s tough to see why loyalty means everything. Too often, the Eagles' offense has felt predictable, boring, and even worse than some have suggested.
And that’s why I think the Eagles should move on from Patullo, no matter how the playoffs end.
A Divisional Round appearance shouldn’t automatically equal much, given this team just won a Super Bowl. This roster is good enough to win playoff games on talent alone.
That doesn’t mean the offensive process is where it needs to be to compete for a Super Bowl.
Eagles fans feel like the offense just is what it is, and there’s too much talent to feel that. And even if a win delays the decision, the question isn’t going anywhere.
Sometimes the right move shouldn’t be made off a few games when we have such a big sample size.
