Lane Johnson Has Scary Thoughts on New Look Eagles' Offense

The NFL season is finally here, and that means it's a very exciting time for the Philadelphia Eagles and the fan base. The Eagles, who were a good team last year and are still one of the best in the entire NFL, have a lot to work on this offseason.

There is a reason to believe that things will go much better than they did a year ago, but a lot of that will fall on the offensive side of things. If the Eagles can do what they're expected to do offensively, at least with the talent they have on that side of the football, there's hope, to say the least.

The question for the Eagles is if they can get creative enough and do the right things under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Mannion is tasked with building an offense that can be very good, and according to many veterans on the roster, there are some early, promising signs.

“The offense that we’re doing is entirely different,” Lane Johnson said after Day 1 of camp, per NBCS Philly. “Under-center, play-action, wide-zone, consistent with that. I think as far as spreading the ball, I think there will be a lot of that. Each guy getting more touches.

“What I like about this is that everything looks very complex to the defense. To the offense, it’s pretty simplified. Obviously, we’ve got to pick up on communication and cadence and stuff. But it’s very O-line friendly compared to maybe some past years that I’ve been involved in. I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to the offense. First day, guys getting jitters out and getting the first practice under their belt is big.”

Hearing Johnson talk about that is the thing I'm most excited for. At times last season, it felt like the Eagles didn't do enough of that.

The offense felt bland, predictable, and ultimately, wasn't good enough. How the offense looks in training camp isn't really going to give us too much of an indication of how things will go next season, but it's at least promising to hear that the guys on the unit are enjoying it so far.
