One of the many things I'm very excited to watch this upcoming season for the Philadelphia Eagles is what they do on the offensive side of the football in the pass game.
Of course, the focus for this offense is expected to be in the pass game, though there's an argument to be made that the bigger picture will be what they do in the run game.
With arguably the best running back in football in Saquon Barkley when he's playing as well as everybody knows he can, as well as a quarterback in Jalen Hurts who can do his thing in the run game, running the football at a high level should be a priority.
However, I'm really excited to see what they look like in the pass game, and that's because of the loss of AJ Brown and the additions of some other players this offseason. One of the guys that I really want to see is Dontayvion Wicks, who I believe can be a really nice piece of what Philadelphia is looking for.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia, there's a feeling that Philadelphia has a lot of trust in him to be a good player, as they took on that risk during the offseason.
“With the first-team offense facing the third-team defense, Jalen Hurts tossed up a deep ball that was slightly underthrown to Wicks, who climbed the ladder to pull it down in double coverage with Jakorian Bennett and Cole Wisniewski in his face. Wicks (6-1, 206) just outmuscled the defenders to make the grab about 35-40 yards down the field.
“The Eagles traded for Wicks this offseason, bringing in the veteran from Green Bay, where he was buried a bit on the depth chart. The Eagles then gave him a one-year, $12.5 million extension. The Birds clearly liked Wicks’ potential and we saw some of that on Day 2 of camp,” NBCS Philly wrote.
Wicks is the typical buy-low candidate. I see somebody who has proven a decent amount in the NFL, but not quite enough. I don't want to sit here and say that he's a star or that he's going to be one eventually, but he has a lot of tools that the Eagles are looking for.
Losing Brown, Philadelphia will need some guys to step up, and Wicks will be at the top of that list.
