A six-game losing streak and an abysmal offense have Philadelphia spiraling toward a top draft pick, echoing the late-season collapse that ended the legendary Andy Reid era.
The Philadelphia Eagles entered "Sunday Night Football" looking to snap a five-game losing streak that started in a 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on "Monday Night Football" in Week 3.
The Eagles started the season 0-2, but have unraveled. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been out since before Philadelphia lost 25-14 to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 18, and is not expected to return for the remainder of the season while he deals with a health issue.
Last week, the Eagles were blown out 38-21 by the Dallas Cowboys at home on "Monday Night Football.” Sunday's primetime game was another disappointment for the Eagles, as the Washington Commanders earned a 27-10 win.
The Eagles are now on a six-game losing streak. Per Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team, the last time Philadelphia had a six-game losing streak came in 2012. The Eagles would go on to lose eight games in a row during a rough stretch, and would finish the season with a 4-12 record. Reid was fired after the season.
During the Eagles' current losing streak, Philadelphia has scored a total of 89 points, averaging 14.8 points per game. They've allowed 160 points, averaging giving up 26.7 points per game.
Tanner McKee got the start at quarterback for Philadelphia. He went 23 of 34 passing for 212 yards and one interception. Rookie Makai Lemon led Philadelphia with 57 yards receiving on six catches. The Eagles were without DeVonta Smith, who is battling a hamstring injury.
Saquon Barkley rushed 13 times for 30 yards and the Eagles' only touchdown of the game. Philadelphia ran the ball 29 times for 91 yards, averaging just over three yards per rush.
With the loss to Washington, the Eagles dropped to the bottom of the NFC East.
The Eagles are in a tough position without their starting quarterback and several of their best players. Even Barkley isn't back to full health.
Philadelphia, a preseason favorite to win the NFC East, is likely set to be a seller before the trade deadline on Nov. 10. There's not much the Eagles can do without their best players.
Even before Hurts' injury, Philadelphia didn't look like a Super Bowl contender. However, there was always a possibility the team would make trades to help facilitate a run at the postseason.
The Eagles won't get there this year. Instead, they'll focus on building for the future.
