With the offseason approaching, the Philadelphia Eagles could look at their quarterback situation and think it might not be the worst idea to move on from Tanner McKee, who has shown some decent signs.

USA Today’s Glenn Erby believes the quarterback could have value on the trade market, mainly due to the need at the position around the NFL.

“McKee, who finished 21 of 40 for 241 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Week 18 loss, could find trade suitors this offseason or at the 2026 trade deadline thanks to a weak free agency and NFL draft class,” he wrote.

The idea isn’t that McKee is suddenly viewed as a franchise quarterback. However, it shows how desperate teams become when options are limited. Think about a team like the New York Jets for a second and what they’d take for any decent quarterback play.

McKee’s Week 18 showing might have given a team a reason to be interested. While far from perfect, he showed he can handle the position, and that’s saying something.

Quarterback-needy teams will be in the market and there are some teams that might even overpay. With this free agency class being average, the draft not having much outside of Fernando Mendoza, and not many trade candidates, someone like McKee could benefit from the landscape.

McKee is cheap and understands what it takes to win after playing with such a great organization. McKee won’t command anything close to a crazy return, but even a mid-round pick for a backup quarterback would be a good thing.

There’s also a side of the story that suggests the Eagles could wait until the trade deadline or later in the summer to make a trade. With injuries and other factors in play, McKee’s value could be better than it is right now.

He isn’t flashy or a star, but he’s only 25 years old and has some nice traits to his game that should entice other teams around the league. A former sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, getting back a decent pick for him would be another draft win for Roseman and the Eagles.
