After the Philadelphia Eagles' 2025 season ended following their playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round, Kevin Patullo was fired as OC and former Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion was hired.
A few days after Mannion was hired, OL coach Jeff Stoutland announced his retirement from the NFL. It's a significant loss for the Eagles, as Stoutland is one of the best in the business.
With Stoutland gone, the Eagles could lose Lane Johnson and Landon Dickerson now.
Let's start with Johnson, the future Hall of Famer. Eagles insider Jeff McLane said on his Uncovering the Birds podcast that while Johnson could play another season, retiring at the age of 35 is definitely on the table. The departure of Stoutland is playing a role in Johnson's decision.
“In terms of Lane and his future, here’s what I can say: He’s definitely not sure if he’s coming back or not, is the impression I get. You would think maybe this would make it a little less likely,” McLane said. “When you’re looking at retirement, it’s, ‘Can my body do it again? Do I want to do it again? Lane has a very high standard for himself.”
Dickerson, 27, is also mulling retirement, per McLane.
“Landon Dickerson may be even more of a question mark,” McLane said.
The Eagles' strong offensive line has been a major part of their recent success. Philadelphia won the Super Bowl last season and RB Saquon Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards.
If Johnson and/or Dickerson retire, the Eagles are in big, big trouble.
Protecting QB Jalen Hurts is one of the Eagles' biggest priorities. If Johnson and/or Dickerson are gone, Hurts may be running for his life next season. The star was sacked 32 times this season.
A one-time Super Bowl MVP, Hurts finished with 3,224 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns this season. He and Patullo didn't have a good relationship.
It will be interesting to see what Johnson and Dickerson do. Hurts is certainly hoping both guys don't retire.
