The Philadelphia Eagles made a huge trade with the Green Bay Packers, acquiring WR Dontayvion Wicks.
The Eagles really like Wicks, who signed an extension after the trade.
"You see that Green Bay has had tremendous depth at the receiver position, he played well in our game and we had advanced scouted him and had looked at him through the years and, obviously, a really productive guy," Eagles GM Howie Roseman said. "But we're also in a situation where you feel like you have inside knowledge about what the player is like to live with.
"Obviously, Ryan (Mahaffey) had been with him as his position coach. Sean (Mannion) had been with him on the offensive staff. You take away the risk of bringing in someone you don't know when you have people who know him and who have worked with him. You see his skill set. He is a physical, explosive player at the top of routes. He can play inside or out, so he is a guy we had our eye on."
Wicks appeared in 14 games for the Packers last season. He finished with 30 receptions for 332 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Wicks has been in the NFL since 2023. He has 108 career receptions for 1,328 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns.
"He's able to separate at the top of the route, and I think his toughness really shows up on tape," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said. "Again, when you can create that type of separation, we obviously get really excited about that, really excited to add him to that room."
Most people who cover the NFL believe the Eagles traded for Wicks because A.J. Brown will be traded in June. The Eagles haven't been highly incentivized to move Brown right now because of money. A trade before June 1 would come with a 2026 cap hit of over $40 million, compared to less than $20 million if he's dealt after that date.
It will be interesting to see if Brown gets traded. If he does, Wicks will have to take his game to another level in 2026.
