Philadelphia Eagles Lose Top Offensive Coordinator Option Mike McDaniel cover image

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offseason reset has already started on the offensive side of the ball. After a year with horrible play when the unit should’ve been among the best in football, the hope is that a new offensive voice will change things.

There are some great names out there to consider, which included former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. However, McDaniel is expected to take a job with the Los Angeles Chargers, per reports.

According to Zach Berman of The Athletic, McDaniel was viewed as the Eagles’ preferred option if he didn’t get another head coaching or OC job.

“If McDaniel does not secure a head-coaching job, he is a sensible No. 1 choice. His offensive credentials are unquestionable. The Dolphins were one of the few teams who had a wide receiver duo that rivaled A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and McDaniel fielded a top-ranked offense when Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were both healthy.

“The Dolphins regressed in 2025, but Pro Bowl running back De’Von Achane led the NFL with 5.7 yards per carry. That success certainly captivates Saquon Barkley. McDaniel’s plan for Hurts would immediately become topic No. 1, especially given Tua Tagovailoa’s regression in Miami. But McDaniel has never coached a dual-threat QB like Hurts before. I’d anticipate he’d play to Hurts’ strengths,” he wrote.

Remember now, while McDaniel wasn’t great in Miami as its head coach, there were times when he made Tua Tagovailoa look like a competent NFL quarterback. As messed up as it might sound, that’s saying something.

The idea of McDaniel working with all of this talent was exciting to consider, as he’s shown an ability to maximize elite speed and more.

McDaniel has built his offense around timing and quick throws, and Jalen Hurts would’ve brought a different style of play, which I honestly think would have fit.

While McDaniel has never coached a true dual-threat quarterback, Hurts and him would’ve been interesting to watch.

Who do you think the Eagles will land this time around? While McDaniel is off the board, there are many other good options out there to pursue.
