The conversations about Jalen Hurts seem to come up every offseason, no matter how much winning he’s done in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform.
Whether it’s about his passing struggles, being more like a running back, or how the offense should look but doesn’t, a lot of people aren’t happy with him again this offseason.
While Hurts had a decent year and did some good things, he could’ve been better.
However, head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear that improving isn’t something the Eagles are going to take lightly, especially when it comes to their quarterback.
Speaking about Hurts being able to get better, Sirianni loves how flexible he’s become with this offense
“You saw this year that he’s open to doing a bunch. We were under center more than we have been," Sirianni said, per Inside the Iggles. "Different motions, different things. Jalen (Hurts) will do whatever it takes to win football games. Sometimes that’s throwing it a bunch, sometimes it’s running it a bunch, sometimes it’s handing it off a bunch. All I’ve ever known from Jalen is the man will do whatever he has to do to win football games. He pushes himself to excel at the things he’s done so well, and he’s proven to everybody year in year out that all he cares about is winning and holding that trophy up.”
Philadelphia has embraced versatility with its quarterback and Hurts has delivered, at times.
As defenses continue to adjust to running quarterbacks, the ability to win in multiple ways becomes important, and at times, that was an issue this past year. Hurts doesn’t need to post gaudy passing totals every week to win, but he needs to do more as a passer.
Hurts’ growth under center this past season was one of the quieter developments in Philadelphia’s offense. That was due to how poorly the offense played for a lot of the season.
However, he showed some nice signs, and if he continues to do so, things might be better moving forward.
We’ll see if that will be the case in 2026 and beyond, but the Eagles need some help, so he’ll need to be on his A-game.
