Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had a lot to say about his franchise player, QB Jalen Hurts, while speaking to reporters at the end of the NFL's annual league meetings in Phoenix.
Lurie, one of the best owners in NFL history, loves Hurts and has no plans of making a blockbuster trade involving the one-time Super Bowl MVP.
“There’s no bigger fan of Jalen than me,” Lurie said. “The guy, MVP of the Super Bowl 13 months ago. Should have been MVP of the Super Bowl (in the 2022 season). Exceptional and so dedicated. I mean, I think you probably know, I spend a lot of time with Jalen, as I do with most quarterbacks. Incredibly dedicated to the game, to winning and being a huge winner. I love everything about him.”
The Eagles won Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs. Hurts was named MVP after putting up 221 passing yards, two passing touchdowns 72 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Hurts finished the 2025 season with 3,224 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He completed 64.8% of his passes.
The Eagles won the NFC East again. However, they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2026 playoffs' wild-card round.
The Eagles signed Hurts to a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023. There is little guaranteed money left in Hurts' deal after the 2026 season.
When asked about the possibilities of a new deal for Hurts, Lurie stuck to his de facto policy of not speaking about contracts.
“We would never discuss it,” Lurie said. “He’s in the middle of a new contract now.”
Hurts will be coached by Sean Mannion next season. Philadelphia hired the Green Bay Packers QB coach as its new OC after parting ways with Kevin Patullo.
Hurts and WR A.J. Brown used to be best friends. However, that is no longer the case and the Eagles could trade Brown this offseason.
It will be fascinating to see how Hurts and the Eagles perform next season. Hurts is under major pressure to play well despite winning a Super Bowl.
