The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs' running back Dameon Pierce on Thursday afternoon.

As the Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman continue to navigate their way through the 2026 NFL Free Agency period, the organization has made strides in replacing a couple of key losses this offseason.

Earlier this month, the Eagles addressed the secondary unit by signing former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen, while also landing Kansas City Chiefs’ veteran wideout Marquise Brown on Tuesday. However, this would not be the end of Roseman’s moves this offseason, as the Eagles added another offensive playmaker this week.

According to a social media post from the team on Thursday afternoon, the Eagles have signed former Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs running back Dameon Pierce to a one-year deal.

Pierce’s Fit With Eagles in 2026

Pierce, a fourth-round pick by the Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft, has had a career full of ups and downs. As a rookie, the former Florida Gator standout quickly made his presence felt, tallying 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 220 carries.

Unfortunately for the young playmaker, his role on offense would slowly diminish over the next two seasons. In 2023, Pierce played in just 14 games, but still finished the year with 416 rushing yards on 145 carries.

To make matters worse, the stout rusher faced competition in the backfield during the 2024 season after the team’s signing of star veteran Joe Mixon. Pierce ended the year with 293 yards on the ground, as Mixon clearly established himself as the team’s primary workhorse.

Now, after a quick stint with the Chiefs in 2025, Pierce is projected to be a key rotational back for the Eagles leading up to the 2026 season. Roseman added former 2023 third-round pick Tank Bigsby to the backfield last season, but his limited usage with the offense in 2025 likely points to Pierce being the next man up behind Saquon Barkley for the upcoming season.
