Philadelphia Eagles star Lane Johnson was ranked the second-best player in the NFL by Bleacher Report's scouts.
NFL scout Brandon Thorn done into what makes Johnson so elite.
"Johnson started only 10 games in 2025 before a Week 11 Lisfranc injury ended his season, making availability the only real caveat attached to the league's top tackle profile," Thoron wrote. "His level of play remained consistent with his Hall of Fame-caliber standard. He is still football's best pass-protecting tackle, regardless of side, thanks to a rare blend of athletic ability, play-strength, balance, recovery skill and technical mastery.
"Johnson can win early with timing, quickness and positioning, then survive late with core strength, independent hands and redirect ability. He remains a complete run-blocker as well, with the power to displace on the front side, the range to cut off pursuit on the back side and the movement skill to lead in space. Johnson's career arc continues to reinforce that some elite players do not simply age gracefully; they age by narrowing the ways they can be beaten."
Since the start of the 2016 season, the Eagles are 96-41-1 when Johnson starts. They're 15-28 when the future Hall of Famer doesn't start.
Johnson is a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro and three-time second-team All-Pro. He is a football legend.
Philadelphia lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. Kevin Patullo was fired as OC and former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion was hired as the new OC.
A few days after Mannion was hired, OL coach Jeff Stoutland announced his retirement from the NFL. It was a significant loss for the Eagles, as Stoutland was one of the best in the business.
The Eagles' strong offensive line has been a major part of their recent success. Philadelphia won the Super Bowl in 2024 against the Kansas City Chiefs and RB Saquon Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards.
Seven offensive linemen earned 27 Pro Bowl nods under Stoutland's stewardship, five players earned All-Pro honors 15 times and two RBs led the league in rushing.
Stoutland joined the Eagles in 2013. He won two championships with Philadelphia.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts must be happy that Johnson will be back this season. Protecting Hurts is one of Philadelphia's biggest priorities, as Hurts was sacked 32 times in 2025.
A one-time Super Bowl MVP, Hurts finished with 3,224 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2025. He and Patullo didn't have a good relationship.
