The Philadelphia Eagles' offense is all out of sorts right now. The Eagles rank 30th in the NFL in total offense, and they are second to last in passing. The latter in particular has drawn the ire of wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has expressed blatant dissatisfaction with his role.
That led to quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley having a sitdown with Brown in the lead up to Philadelphia's Week 6 matchup with the New York Giants, and both Hurts and Barkley opened up on the meeting.
"It's just us talking about the collective, talking about taking ownership for what we can and talking about how we move forward as a team so we continue to find ways to win games," Hurts said, via ESPN.
Hurts added that it was "really just teammates being teammates."
Barkley was a bit more aggravated that the conversation became public knowledge, but echoed Hurts' sentiments that it wasn't a huge deal.
"I felt like that conversation was meant to stay between us, but the focus was all about the team, and I think it was a good thing," Barkley said. "I would definitely say it wasn't like a players' meeting. When you hear 'players' meeting,' that's like all hell's breaking loose. It wasn't that at all. But also that we're teammates, we're all friends, we're just having a conversation."
Brown has logged just 19 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown through five games and expressed clear discontent in a social media post after recording just two catches in Week 4. Then, last Sunday, Brown appeared to give up on a catchable deep pass from Hurts in what ended up being the Eagles' first loss of the season.
Trade speculation has swirled around Brown, who arrived in Philly back in 2022 and posted back-to-back 1,400-yard campaigns to begin his Eagles career. He also tallied 1,079 yards while averaging 16.1 yards per catch in 13 games last season.
As of right now, Philadelphia does not appear all that interested in moving Brown, especially considering the team is 4-1. But if Brown's questionable behavior continues, the Eagles may ultimately have to make a tough decision before the trade deadline.
