NFL competition committee co-chairman Rich McKay is not anticipating an attempt to ban the tush push this year, per ESPN.
That's good news for the Philadelphia Eagles, who use the tush push frequently.
"There's no team proposal that I've seen from it," McKay said. "So, I wouldn't envision it. But you never know."
The NFL saw slightly more tush pushes in 2025 (112) than in 2024 (101). The Eagles (27) and Buffalo Bills (17) led the league in tush push attempts.
The Green Bay Packers proposed last year to ban the tush push. NFL rules require approval from 24 owners to enact a rule change and only 16 supported the ban.
In September, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni talked about the tush push play.
"It's an exciting play. There's been a lot of discussion about it and when you bring more attention to a play, it brings more attention to football," Sirianni said. "I think it's kind of a cool thing, obviously, how much people debate it, how much people discuss it. I'd be confident too in our other plays to run in that area on those situations, but this play has been working well, so you keep going back to it.
"There are alternatives too for us to run that I think we would be successful with because of the resources we put into our offensive line, our quarterback, and the guys that are making the play go. I think there's a beauty to it in that everyone knows what you're going to run and you can still get the (first down or touchdown)."
Philadelphia will continue to use the tush push in 2026. Sean Mannion, the Eagles' new OC, ironically is coming from the Packers. Mannion was Green Bay's quarterbacks coach in 2025.
The Eagles won the Super Bowl last year with Kellen Moore calling plays, but they lost in the wild-card round of the 2026 playoffs. Kevin Patullo was fired as OC after just one season.
Mannion has to work well with Hurts, who finished with 3,224 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2025. Hurts and Patullo didn't have a good relationship.
