If we really sit back and think about it for a second, it would be absolutely insane for the Philadelphia Eagles to move on from quarterback Jalen Hurts. That doesn't necessarily mean that Hurts is safe in the short and long term, but the idea of moving on from a Super Bowl-winning quarterback who did so less than two years ago just doesn't seem right in this era of the NFL.
Still, if the Eagles' offense is to struggle a bit next season, I don't think anything can be counted out when it comes to what Howie Roseman could have up his sleeve. Roseman, who many consider one of the top executives in the NFL, has always shown that he's willing to be aggressive.
How aggressive he is in moving on from his franchise quarterback is a different story, however, one that I'm a bit uncertain he'd really be willing to do.
However, one ESPN reporter believes that, given how much the Eagles struggled on offense last year, if Hurts and the team look like that again, it wouldn't be crazy to hear those talks get even louder.
“Is Jalen Hurts' future in Philly on the line this season? It would feel terribly unfair if it were, given that Hurts was the Super Bowl MVP 16 months ago, they just traded away his best wide receiver and he has to learn a new offense for the foreverth offseason in a row. But this is Philadelphia, and Hurts knows very well that the Eagles are willing to move on at key positions when things aren't working. That's how he got the job in the first place, when the Eagles decided to get rid of Wentz shortly after signing him to a big new extension.
“Hurts has three years left on his contract and $22 million in guaranteed money set for 2027. But we've already heard rumblings out of Philly this offseason about Hurts' level of perceived responsibility for the offense's 2025 struggles. And those rumblings will only get louder if the offense struggles again in 2026,” Dan Graziano wrote.
For the Eagles to move on from a player like Hurts, they'd absolutely need a guy to come in and be the guaranteed star quarterback that they're looking for.
Besides that, I just don't see an avenue where it would make sense to move on from Hurts, though I know Roseman has made the right moves, and I'll trust him if that's what he decides to do.
