Report: Eagles Pull Off Trade for Intriguing Running Back cover image

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to make moves in an effort to bolster an already-stacked roster.

Prior to Monday Night Football kicking off, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news that running back Tank Bigsby from the Jacksonville Jaguars was going to the Eagles.

In exchange, Philadelphia is sending a pair of 2026 late-round picks to Jacksonville.

It’s a move that offers superstar running back Saquon Barkley help and an effort to take a load off his plate.

However, it also signifies that perhaps the rib injury that backup running back Will Shipley suffered in the Week 1 win against Dallas is a lot more severe than led to believe.

Shipley had begun the game on a hot note. He only had three carries but made the most out of it, rushing for 26 yards, and an even more impressive 20 yard run that helped the Eagles score their first touchdown of the season.

Shortly after that, he was nowhere to be seen, and it was up to AJ Dillon to help Barkley. Yet, Dillon didn’t offer much – only rushing for 10 yards on three carries.

Dillon’s career trajectory has certainly taken a hit after suffering a neck injury prior to the 2024 season. After a successful stint in Green Bay, where he shared responsibilities with Aaron Jones, he’s now mainly serving as a third-string back and a lead blocker.

Bigsby coming onto the Eagles opens the door for a myriad of opportunities.

Don’t be mistaken, they don’t call him “Tank” for nothing. Bigsby is a thumper who welcomes contact, as shown in his time at Auburn University.

His sophomore season last year was when he started to play at a higher level, rushing for 766 yards and seven touchdowns. As he shared a backfield with Travis Etienne in Jacksonville, Bigsby mainly served as a goalline threat, the way he welcomes contact.

In the 2024 season, Bigsby was also tied for the lead with Derrick Henry with 2.8 yards gained after contact.

Behind one of the best offensive lines in football, Eagles fans should expect Bigsby to thrive in Philadelphia.
