The Philadelphia Eagles held serious conversations with the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots about trading wide receiver A.J. Brown, according to Dianna Russini, Jourdan Rodrigue and Zach Berman of The Athletic.
No deal was agreed upon, though.
"Both teams in recent weeks discussed trading for Brown, whose frustrations in Philadelphia were a running subplot of the Eagles' 2025 season. While the Rams and Patriots remain interested, no move is imminent. If a trade were to happen, league sources say it would likely heat up closer to June 1.
"A league source believed the Eagles were trying to get multiple teams competing for Brown before free agency began, but with an incredibly high asking price. Early on, the receiver market moved elsewhere, though, with the Buffalo Bills trading for DJ Moore and New England signing Romeo Doubs as free agency began. The Rams continued to wait and monitor Brown's situation."
Brown had 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He and QB Jalen Hurts weren't on the same page.
During the Eagles' wild-card round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Nick Sirianni and Brown got into a heated sideline exchange. Philadelphia lost to San Francisco by a final score of 23-19. Brown had two drops, tying a career high, and declined to speak to the media postgame.
Brown finished the Eagles-49ers game with three catches for 25 yards on seven targets. Philadelphia fans booed him after his second drop in the fourth quarter.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Brown has been with the Eagles since 2022. He has 339 receptions for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns in a Philadelphia uniform.
The Eagles would absorb a dead cap hit of over $40 million if they dealt Brown before June 1, compared with less than $20 million in dead cap if a trade is consummated after that date.
The team acquiring Brown would be responsible for his $29 million salary in 2026 and around $4 million in guaranteed money in 2027, per ESPN.
Brown has 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and Eagles. It will be fascinating to see where he's playing next season.
