The Philadelphia Eagles made an impressive move by signing Marquise Brown. Brown is a good player, but has also struggled at other parts in his career.
If he can stay healthy, though, it’s fair to say that he’ll be a lot better than Jahan Dotson and some of the other non-star receivers the Eagles have used.
After improving their wide receiver room, the Eagles are expected to use Brown as their No. 3 option next season. While he won’t have to be a star, if the Eagles move on from A.J. Brown, it could change things.
A No. 3 is something Philadelphia lacked at times last year, especially in moments when A.J. wasn’t locked in.
According to Cayden Steele of NJ.com, the signing of Brown brings a different element to the offense compared to what the Eagles had previously.
“Next season, Brown will be Philadelphia’s No. 3 wide receiver, bringing more speed and overall upside than former slot wideout Jahan Dotson. The Eagles need a player like him to stretch the field, and Brown believes the team could help him reach his potential.”
Brown, who was with the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson earlier in his career, is excited for the opportunity and the expectations that come with playing in Philadelphia.
“For me, I’m excited,” Brown said. “I (am) always looking to prove myself, not only to my teammates, my coaches, but to myself. I feel like I haven’t played my best ball. Feel like all that is still in front of me. So here in Philly, I’m ready to introduce Hollywood to the city of Philadelphia, and I’m excited for the opportunity.”
That mindset is exactly what the Eagles are counting on. I’m curious to see how things would change if A.J. were traded, but I still don’t think the Eagles can view him as a No. 2. There’s certainly talent there, but we have to be honest about what we’ve seen from him throughout his career thus far.
For Brown, this is a chance to reset that narrative. He’s shown flashes throughout his career, but consistency has been the issue. In Philadelphia, with this much talent around him on that side of the football, he has no excuses.
