Being respected around the NFL is just as big as anything else, something the Philadelphia Eagles have to feel fairly confident about. Not only have the Eagles won a lot of games in recent years, but they've also done right by the players in the organization.
When things have gotten rough for certain guys, they don't force them to stay around, and when things are going well, they've continued to show that they're willing to pay guys and not play about their money.
For some of the players the Eagles have on their roster, that hasn't always been the case, including star running back Saquon Barkley. Remember, if the New York Giants had given Barkley as much money as he was looking for just a few years ago, the Eagles offense would look a lot different.
Instead, the Giants lost arguably the best running back in the NFL, and the Eagles were able to get a very good player.
Speaking to reporters about that, it's one of the things Barkley believes is a very good aspect of the organization. He believes that Philadelphia does things the right way, and as I said above, there really is something to say about that.
"There is something about this organization. There is something about Howie (Roseman). They just do it the right way in my opinion," Barkley said, per the team. "There is a reason why this team has been successful. I was talking with Dallas (Goedert, tight end, who has been an Eagle since the 2018 season). We're both going into Year 9 and he's only missed the playoffs once (2020 season). It's not an accident.
"There's a reason why Dallas has never really had to hit the market, why Lane (Johnson, right tackle) has been here the whole time (since 2013). They take care of their guys. It's not like that everywhere, and this is not me taking a shot at New York (Giants, Barkley's previous team). It is respect to how this team is run.”
Now, the Eagles doing things the right way doesn't necessarily guarantee that they're going to win a Super Bowl now or in the future, but they did do so a few years ago because of a lot of the right decisions that Roseman and other decision-makers in Philadelphia have made.
As long as the Eagles continue to pay the right players and do right by their guys, I wouldn't be surprised to see many other free agents want to come to the organization.
