The Eagles' OC sees a lot of positives from Hurts.
Being poised as a quarterback is one of the most difficult things to do in the NFL, something a lot of young quarterbacks often deal with. It's something that can't always be taught, either, though the Philadelphia Eagles are very lucky to have a quarterback who does just that in Jalen Hurts.
Hurts has done a lot of good throughout his career, including winning the Super Bowl. However, his ability to keep things light is just as important as anything beyond that.
That's part of why the Eagles have to feel confident they can win a Super Bowl this season and in the future with Hurts as their quarterback.
There are always going to be questions about the type of quarterback he is because people don't like the way he plays, but he does a lot of things that other quarterbacks can't do in this league, and that's one of them.
Speaking to reporters about that, new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion had plenty to say.
Mannion understands things have been different for Hurts because he's learning a new system, but instead of making excuses, he's worked hard and kept doing what he needs to do.
“I think it's he's naturally got a lot of poise, especially under the spotlight,” Mannion said, per NBCS Philly. “He's performed at a high level going back to college. He’s played in high pressure moments and I think you saw it come to light in the two-minute drill [Sunday].
“He was comfortable, he's in command, and executed well. I think the biggest thing is the way he's attacked the fundamentals going back to the spring. Some of the things we're asking him to do that are a little different for him. Really starting back in April, he dove in head first and has really attacked it each day. And you can tell. He's the last one on the practice field working on his footwork, working on his progressions and things like that.”
It's always good to hear that Hurts is the type of guy who isn't going to let outside factors impact his play.
Instead of being frustrated by the number of offensive coordinators the Eagles have had in the past couple of seasons, he continues to try his best to work with the new faces.
There's a lot that has to happen throughout the remainder of the year, but Hurts has played pretty well, and that's a promising sign for an Eagles team that needs to have a strong showing.
